    Responsibilities

    The Role

    We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our growing team in Lenexa, KS.  The Senior Software Engineer is responsible for both back-end and front-end development.  There is a primary focus on best-in-class complex CMS development with experience in Wordpress. This position requires a combination of programming skills (namely PHP, HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript) and aesthetics (understanding element arrangements on the screen) as well as an understanding of the application stack and server architecture.

This position will need to grow and gain professional support from inside the organization as well as form close relationships with strategic partners. Flexibility and a passion for performing in a fast paced, always changing, environment is a must.

     

    What We Expect:

     

    The ideal candidate should have a strong understanding of web development trends and content management systems. Experience with responsive and adaptive design is required and an understanding of the entire web development process, from design to development to deployment to maintenance is crucial. This individual will not only have a great technical mind but also a creative side when it comes to problem solving. A passion for the “next big thing” in digital development, such as machine learning and artificial intelligence, is a must.

    • Implementation of multiple Wordpress builds through coding and management of outside software engineers when workload dictates.
    • Researching the latest in development and pushing the Digital Marketing team to execute tactics that take advantage of your development skills.
    • Implementation, optimization, and maintenance of third-party APIs that work with our brand web sites, as well as our internal customer facing portal.
    • Ability to develop and maintain new plugins as needed.
    • Day to day maintenance and overall site health for multiple web properties. Must understand how to maintain our internal web servers as well as those hosted at Amazon (AWS).
    • Make strategic decisions on web technology directions throughout the growing worldwide business.
    • Lead discussion on expectations, ROI, overall web property roadmaps.
    • Introduce best-in-class web technologies and processes that have a multiplier effect on the business, vendors, partners and the public.
    • Scope and document online properties throughout their lifecycle.
    • Work with strategic partners and outside teams.
    • Expect to get hands on with code on a daily basis while growing an internal team of developers over time.
    • Focus on LAMP stack hosting & development but enjoy exploring various other technologies, like business intelligence tools.
    • Ownership of data as it moves throughout the business, regardless of what technology it moves through.

    Qualifications

    What We Are Looking For: 

    •  Computer Science degree or relevant, equivalent experience considered.
    • Minimum 5 years of PHP and front-end development experience required. Candidate should have highly proven proficiency working with the following: HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript and JavaScript Libraries (jQuery, Backbone, Angular, etc.), AJAX, JSON, build tools (Grunt, SASS, LESS, etc.), responsive and mobile optimized development.
    • GUI development experience and working knowledge of the most updated frontend technologies.
    • Experience building high quality responsive user interfaces for the web.
    • Relational and key-value database experience.
    • Experience building & maintaining automated tests.
    • Experience conducting code reviews.
    • Ability to convert comprehensive layout and wireframes into working HTML pages.
    • Knowledge of how to build, document and interact with RESTful APIs and formats (JSON, XML).
    • Proficient understanding of code versioning tools such as Git, SVN, and Mercurial.
    • Strong understanding of PHP back-end development.
    • Adobe Photoshop and creating "pixel perfect" HTML/CSS from .psd files.
    • Experience working with SEO professionals and writing code that follows SEO best practices.
    • Strong understanding of web architecture concepts (HTTP request/response, session, cache, cookies).
    • Experience implementing custom analytics tracking.
    • Linux server experience required.
    • Experience with Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud, or Microsoft Azure required.
    • Experience with Machine Leaning and Artificial Intelligence a plus.
