    The Role


    We have an opportunity to join our team in Lenexa, KS in a new role as the Director of IT.  This individual will plan, coordinate, direct, and design the operational activities of the IT department, as well as provide strategic direction and support for IT solutions that enhance mission-critical business operations. The Director of IT reports to the Chief Innovation Officer and will work closely with the Essense leadership team to identify, recommend, develop, implement, and support cost-effective technology solutions for all aspects of the organization.

    What We Expect: 


    This position is responsible for all enterprise-wide information technology including infrastructure and architecture, applications support, networks, telecommunications, vendor management, sourcing, project management and security. The Director will participate in overall business planning and innovation and must understand the organization’s core technology competency as well as future capabilities.


    • Foster an agile and responsive IT organization responsible for maintaining a scalable, secure, stable computing and telecommunication environment with maximum system availability and performance.
    • Continuously design, develop, monitor and improve infrastructure and application performance, security, compliance, and availability.
    • Oversee provision of end-user services, including help desk and technical support services.
    • Develop and implement all IT policies and procedures, including those for architecture, security, disaster recovery, standards, purchasing, and service provision.
    • Cultivate a team-oriented, problem-solving culture focused on delivering quality solutions that facilitate business success.
    • Serve as a manager, mentor, and coach to the IT team, and motivating IT team members to achieve results.
    • Assess the training and development needs of the IT team and ensure they are achieved.
    • Define and communicate project milestones, service level agreements, and resource allocation to executive team, department leads, support staff, and end users.
    • Review performance of IT systems to determine operating costs, productivity levels, and upgrade requirements.
    • Oversee all IT-related purchasing and work with Accounting to manage department budget
    • Define and implement best practices for software license management and compliance.Develop business case justifications and cost/benefit analyses for IT spending and initiatives. Develop bid requirements for all hardware and software upgrades, review submitted bids for compliance with stated requirements, and make recommendation for approval.
    • Direct research on potential technology solutions and implementations in support of new initiatives.
    • Establish and maintain regular written and in-person communications with the organization’s executives, department heads, and end users regarding pertinent IT activities.
    • Advise the CIO and business executives on the future technology needs, trends, and practices creating business cases and analysis of the associated capital expenditures/investments required to meet company's long-term goals.


    What We Are Looking For: 


    • Minimum 10 years overall IT experience with proven success in aligning business and corporate technology strategies.
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience building and leading lean, high performance teams.
    • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Computer Science or related field.
    • Demonstrated experience in recommending, designing, and implementing common infrastructure, systems, and processes in an Enterprise IT environment.
    • Excellent communication skills. Ability to interact courteously with the entire Essense community and their partners at all levels of technical and organizational sophistication.
    • Ability to provide leadership, accept responsibility, work independently and set own goals in a professional manner.
    • Ability to gather requirements from multiple stakeholders and translate them into well-defined hardware and software requirements.
    • Experience upgrading platforms including from on-site to cloud based applications.
    • Strong project management skills and an ability to multi-task.
    • Experience in relational databases and an understanding of ETL processes and experience with data warehousing.
    • Excellent understanding of network topologies and the ability to optimize.
    • Hands on approach with an attention to detail.
    • An ability to work on a lean team in a fast-paced environment.
    • Experience in managing both PC and Mac environments.
    • Experience designing and managing reliable LAN and WAN infrastructure (including switching, routing, firewall, VPN, IDS/IPS, MPLS), telephony solutions, cloud and hybrid operations and database systems.
    • Strong knowledge of current and trending security practices, regulations and technologies.
    • Advanced troubleshooting skills.
    • Extraordinary attention to detail along with the ability to think big-picture strategy.
