Responsibilities

An exciting opportunity is available for a Senior Tax Accountant to join the Accounting team based in our Lenexa, KS world headquarters. This role will report to the Corporate Controller and will work to ensure the timely completion and filing of all required tax returns, and will also own other compliance type activities such as annual registrations, government surveys, and other 3rd party requests

 

The Senior Tax Accountant will work closely with Accounting and Finance team members and with senior leadership to manage the global tax compliance calendar, work with third-party tax advisors to prepare necessary documents to ensure all filings are accurate and timely. 

 

The individual in this role must have proven experience with domestic tax compliance.  International tax experience is strongly preferred.  This position requires a strong leader and communicator with the ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while managing deadlines and working with a team of talented professionals. This person in this role will need to be highly organized, a self-starter who can work independently and in a team setting, and have a strong background in income tax and other tax types.  

 

What You’ll Do:

  • Effectively coordinate activities with various tax advisors, including public accounting firms, statutory reporting agencies, and third-party consultants.
  • Manage the global tax calendar to ensure that all federal, state, local, and foreign tax returns are properly and accurately filed on a timely basis.
  • Provide needed schedules to external accountants for the preparation and analysis of the quarterly and annual tax provision for domestic and international operations.
  • Forecast tax liability and quarterly/monthly payments based on past and future transactions and the current business plan.
  • Assist external accountants in preparing support and documentation for the tax related disclosures in the annual audit report.
  • Provide technical support for domestic federal, state, & local matters, as well as, international research when needed. Maintain current knowledge of relevant foreign and U.S. tax laws; monitor the effect of proposed and enacted changes to these laws on our various global entities with the assistance of external accountants as needed.
  • Manage internal controls surrounding the tax function
  • Build strong working relationships with both internal leadership and external advisors.
  • Responsible for ensuring all statutory and regulatory filings and reporting in all countries is completed timely.
  • Prepare necessary work papers and supporting schedules to assist external accountants in US, Switzerland, UK, Australia, and Canada with annual tax filing requirements.
  • Review and tie out any tax forms completed by external accountants to ensure accuracy.
  • Responsible for monthly and quarterly VAT and GST filings in various countries.
  • Responsible for annual reporting filings in various states.
  • Perform the annual 1099 process after year-end.
  • Ensure Company compliance with 1099 guidelines and timely completion and mailing.

Qualifications

What We Are Looking For:

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Taxation or similar Business degree required; CPA or advanced degree preferred.
  • 4+ years of professional tax experience required; experience with a public accounting firm in the tax department preferred.
  • Experience with a fast-growing start-up type of business or companies with international businesses is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of U.S. tax laws and process, including how to prepare required returns and research various tax issues and questions.
  • Experience in computing tax estimated payments, annual/monthly provisions for the financial statements, and in preparing tax returns.
  • Excellent critical thinking and analytical skills and advanced Excel skills.
  • Well-rounded experience across a wide spectrum of accounting and tax issues.
  • Strong attention to detail with ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities to meet deadlines.
  • Self-motivated with a strong work ethic and a willingness to take on new challenges.
  • Solid problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze issues and recommend appropriate solutions.
  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with an international company or in filing international tax forms for GST and VAT is preferred.
